1. Compound sentences (Cõu ghộp)
- Là cõu cú ớt nhất hai mệnh đề độc lập cú mối quan hệ về mặt ý nghĩa kết hợp với nhau. Mỗi mệnh đề 
 độc lập đều chứa ớt nhất một chủ ngữ và một động từ, cú thể đứng riờng lẻ thành một cõu và thể hiện 
 một ý nghĩa hoàn chỉnh.
- Trong cõu ghộp cỏc mệnh đề độc lập được nối với nhau bằng cỏc từ nối như: and (và), or (hoặc là), 
 but (nhưng), so(vỡ vậy)...
