Warm-up 5 minutes
 - Option 1: Access sachmem. Have one pair of Whole class
 pupils play Kim’s game in Fun time 3 on page 
 47 (Student’s book). 
 - Option 2: Invite one group of pupils to sing the 
 song on page 45 (Student’s book)
 - Option 3: Ask a few pupils to do the project on 
 page 33 (Workbook).
 - Have pupils open the books and look at Unit 
 11, Lesson 1 p. 48, saying Open the books and 
 look at Unit 3, Lesson 1 (Page 48).
1. Listen and repeat. 10 minutes
 Step 1: Open books open or access sachmem. Have pupils Whole class
 look at the picture and describe it, saying Look at 
 the picture and describe it, please! Draw pupils’ 
 attention to the letter U/u, the words next to the 
 things and the colour of the letter U/u (as 
 mentioned in Input in Teacher’s guide). Check 
 comprehension.
 Step 2: Ask pupils to point to the letter U/u, listen to the Individual 
 recording and repeat the sound of the letter U/u, work
 saying Point to the letter U/u, listen and repeat, 
 please!
 Step 3: Have them point to the sun and/or the word sun, Individual 
 listen to the recording and repeat the word sun. work
 Say Point to the sun, listen and repeat, please! 
 Then play the recording again, if necessary, for 
 them to repeat individually and in chorus. Correct 
 pronunciation, if necessary. If they repeated well, 
 praise them, saying Well done!
 Step 4: Follow the same procedure with the truck and the Individually
 144 the things and say the sound of the letter and the 
 words aloud. Say Point to the picture and say, 
 please! Go around to offer help or correct 
 pronunciation, if necessary.
 Step 5: Invite some pupils to point to the picture and say Whole class
 the sound of the letter and the words in front of 
 the class. Correct pronunciation, if necessary.
Fun corner Pelmanism 7 minutes
 Step 1: Tell pupils about two sets of cards (as mentioned Whole class
 in Input). Check comprehension.
 With better class, stick four flashcards with these 
 words on the board. Have two groups of four to 
 play the game. You may let them play Slap the 
 board on Sachmem.
 Step 2: Tell pupils that they are going to match the words 
 with the suitable pictures. Give an example to 
 show how the game is played. Check comprehension.
 Step 3: Put pupils into groups of four and give each group Group work
 a set of cards.
 Step 4: Get the groups to shuffle the cards and distribute Group work
 them face down on the table. Have each player in 
 turn select two cards and turn them face up. If the 
 word matches the picture, the player wins the pair 
 and continues to turn over another pair. If the 
 cards do not match, they are turned face
 down again and the next player has to go. The 
 game ends when all the cards are gone.
 Extension: With a better class, have them play the game with 
 the words they have leant (e.g. mango, mother, 
 mouse, clock, lock, )
Homelink 3 minutes
 Option 1: Pupils practise pronouncing the sound of the letter Whole class
 U/u and saying the words sun, truck, bus, running 
 (in Student’s books or sachmem).
 Option 2: Pupils play Pelmanism in sachmem.

I. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:
 - say the structures Look at the ___. The ___ is 
 moving/running in a chant.
 - listen and identify the sentences: Look at the bus. Ba is 
 running.
 - trace the letter U/u and write the letter u in the words 
 (bus, truck, sun, running) 
II. INPUT Language: 
 - Sound / ʌ /
 - Vocabulary: truck, bus, sun, running
 - Sentence patterns: Look at the ___. The ___ is 
 moving/running.
 Resources/Material: 
 - Student’s book p. 49
 - Sachmem.vn
 - Teacher’s guide pp. 119-121
 - Computer, projector
 148 do actions. Then get pupils to point to the second 
 line, play the recording and ask them to listen and 
 repeat. Correct pronunciation, if necessary.
 Step 4: Follow the same procedure with the second verse. Individual 
 Step 5: Play the recording again (more than once, if work
 necessary) for pupils to listen and repeat the chant Group work
 individually and in groups. Give further support to 
 those pupils who find it difficult to do the task.
 Step 6: Select some groups to the front of the class to Whole class 
 chant and clap their hands/do actions. The rest of 
 the class may give comments.
 Extension: With better classes, encourage pupils change 
 some lines of the chant and sing the chant in front 
 of the class. E.g. 
 B, b. Look at the boy. The boy is running.
 G, g. Look at the girl. The girl is running.
 H, h. Look at the horse. The horse is 
 running.
 M, m. Look at the mouse. The mouse is 
 running.
4. Listen and tick. 7 minutes
 Step 1: Open books or access sachmem. Have pupils look Whole class 
 at the pictures and say what they can see by
 answering the questions such as What is this? Is 
 this a bus? Yes. It’s a bus. Who is this? It’s a boy. 
 What is the boy doing? He’s running? Draw pupils’ 
 attention to the boxes next to the letters a and b. 
 Check comprehension.
 Step 2: Encourage some pupils to point to the pictures in Individual 
 Question 1 and say the words and the imperative work
 sentences in front of the class. Say Point to the 
 pictures and say the words/sentences, please! E.g. 
 1a: a bus, 1b: a truck. 1a: Look at the bus. 1b: Look 
 at the truck.
 Step 3: Play the recording of the first sentence for pupils Individual 
 to listen and tick the box, saying Now listen to the work
 150 pupils to work in pairs and swap their answers. 
 Give pupils time to work. Go around and offer 
 help, if necessary.
 Step 5: If there is enough time, invite some pupils to point 
 to the letter U/u and say its sound, saying Point to 
 the letter and say, please! Then let them point to 
 the pictures and say the complete words aloud, 
 saying Point to the pictures and say the words, 
 please!
Homelink 3 minutes
 Option 1: Pupils learn by heart the chant (p. 49). Whole class
 Option 2: Pupils trace the letter U/u, page 34 (Workbook).
 Option 3: Pupils point to the pictures in Listen and tick (p. 
 49) and say the sentences, e.g 1a: Look at the bus. 
 1b: Look at the truck. 
 Option 4: Sellect a few pupils who can change some lines to 
 make their own chants.

 chant on page 49 in front of the class. 
 - Option 2: Have a few pupil to point to the 
 picture in sachmem or poster for Unit 11 and 
 say the sentences, e.g. Look at ___. 
 - Option 3: Let two or three pupil point to the 
 pictures in Listen and tick (p. 49) and say the 
 sentences, e.g 1a: Look at the bus. 1b: Look at 
 the truck. 
 - Option 4: Invite one pupil who has changed 
 some lines of the chant and chant it in front of 
 the class.
 - Get pupils to open their books and look at 
 Lesson 3 p. 50 (saying Open the books and look 
 at lesson 3, please!).
6. Listen and repeat. 5 minutes
 Step 1: Open books or access sachmem. Have pupils look Whole class
 at the picture, saying Look at the picture,
 please! What can you see? Can you see a boy? Yes. 
 He’s running. Can you see a girl? Yes. She’s 
 running. Explain the meaning of the sentences and 
 how they are used. Check comprehension.
 Step 2: Have pupils point to the first sentence, listen and Individual 
 repeat, saying Listen to the recording and work
 repeat, please! “He’s running”. Play the recording 
 several times for pupils to listen and repeat. Give 
 more support to those pupils who find it difficult 
 154 8. Let’s sing. 10 minutes
 Step 1: Have pupils look at the first verse of the lyrics. Whole class
 Explain the meaning of the word sunny and the 
 sentences It’s a sunny day. It’s sunny today. Check 
 comprehension.
 Step 2: Have pupils point to the first line of the first verse, Individual 
 listen to the recording and repeat individually and work
 in chorus, saying Point to the first line, listen and 
 repeat, please!
 Step 3: Follow the same procedure with other lines of the Individual 
 fist verse. Correct pronunciation and the melody work
 of the song, if necessary.
 Step 4: Repeat the same procedure with the second 
 verse. Give further support to those pupils who 
 find it difficult to do the task.
 Step 5: Play the recording all the way through for the class Pair/ group 
 to sing and do actions along, in pairs and in work
 groups. Go around and offer help, if necessary.
 Step 6: Select some pupils to go to the front of the class to Whole class
 sing the song. The class may sing along and do 
 actions.
 Extension: With a better class, have pupils change some lines 
 in the second verse of the lyrics and perform the 
 song in front of the class. E.g. 
 The girl is running.
 The girl is running.
 The girl is running in the sun.
Homelink 3 minutes
 Option 1: Pupils sing by heart the song on page 50. Whole class
 Option 2: Pupils change some lines in the second verse of 
 the lyrics and practice singing the song at home.
 Option 3: Pupils do the project on page 36 in their 
 workbooks.
