Warm-up 5 minutes
 - Greet the class and introduce your name. Whole class
 Have pupils greet and introduce themselves. 
 - Option 1: Have one group of pupils sing the 
 song on p. 25 in front of the class. The class 
 claps their hands. 
 - Option 2: Invite some pupil to sing the chant 
 p. 24.
 - Option 3: Ask a group of pupil to play 
 Matching game with the target vocabulary.
 - Have pupils open the books and look at Unit 
 6, Lesson 1 p. 26, saying Open the books and 
 look at Unit 3, Lesson 1 (page 26).
1. Listen and repeat. 10 minutes
 Step 1: Open books or access sachmem. Have pupils look Whole class
 at the picture, saying Look at the picture, please! 
 and describe the picture. Draw pupils’ attention 
 to the words next to the things/colour and the 
 colour of the letter E/e (as mentioned in Input in 
 Teacher’s guide). Check comprehension.
 Step 2: Ask pupils to point to the letter E/e, saying Point Individual 
 to the letter E/e, please! Have them listen and work
 repeat the sound of the letter E/e, saying Listen 
 and repeat, please! more than once, if necessary.
 Step 3: Tell pupils to point to the pencil in the picture and Individual 
 the word pencil, saying Point to the pencil and the work
 word “pencil”. Ask them to listen and repeat the 
 word, saying Listen and repeat, please! Then play 
 the recording again, if necessary, for pupils to do 
 72 performed well, praise them, saying Good job! or 
 Great!
Fun corner Pass the ball 7 minutes
 Step 1: Tell pupils that they are going to play the game Whole class
 Pass the ball. Explain how to play the game (as 
 mentioned in the steps below). Check 
 comprehension.
 Step 2: Play the music. Give a ball to one pupil and ask Group work
 her/him to pass it to the second one. The 
 second pupil passes the ball to the third one 
 and so on.
 Step 3: Stop the music. Ask the pupil who is holding the Group work
 ball to say one of the words, e.g. pencil.
 Step 4: Continue to play the game until all the words 
 are said.
 Extension: With a better class, after the pupils become Group work
 experts at the game, ask pupils to play the game 
 on sachmem. 
Homelink 3 minutes
 Option 1: Pupils practise pronouncing the sound of the Whole class
 letter E/e and saying the words pen, pencil, bell, 
 red (in Student’s book or sachmem).
 Option 2: Pupils play Pass the ball in sachmem.
 Option 3: Pupils do the project on page 18 in Workbook.

Warm-up 5 minutes
 - Greet the class and introduce yourself, saying: Whole class
 Hi. I’m + name. Encourage pupils to greet and 
 introduce their names, e.g. Hi, I’m Hoa.
 - Option 1: Invite a few pupils to point to the 
 picture/poster and pronounce the sound of the 
 letter E/e and say the words pen, pencil, bell, 
 red.
 - Option 2: Ask a group of four to play Pass the 
 ball with the target vocabulary they have 
 learnt.
 - Option 3: Have pupils do the project, page 18 
 (Workbook) in pairs or groups.
 - Get pupils to open their books and look at 
 Lesson 2, p.27 (saying Open the books and look 
 at Lesson 2, please!).
3. Listen and chant. 10 minutes
 Step 1: Open books or access sachmem. Have pupils look Whole class
 at the chant. Say Look at the chant, please! Draw
 pupils’ attention to the first verse and explain its 
 meaning. Ask them to pay attention to the letter 
 E/e and the words red, pen and the phrase A red 
 pen. Check comprehension.
 Step 2: Play the recording of the first verse for pupils to Individual 
 listen and to get familiarized with the tune, saying work
 Listen to the first line, please!
 Step 3: Play the recording again, ask pupils to listen and Individual 
 repeat the first verse, line by line, saying Listen work
 again and repeat, please! Then play the recording 
 76 sentences. E.g. 1a: This is a bell. 1b: This is a pen. 
 After that, encourage them to say longer 
 sentences. E.g. 1a: This is a red bell. 1b: This is a 
 red pen.
 Play the recording of the first sentence several Individual 
 Step 3: times, if necessary, for pupils to listen and tick the work
 box. Ask pupils to say what they have heard and 
 ticked. Say What did you hear? Did you hear “I 
 have a red bell” If pupils say “I have a red bell”, let 
 them tick the box a. If pupils give wrong answers, 
 let them listen again.
 Follow the same procedure with Question 2. Give 
 Step 4: further support to those pupils who find it difficult 
 to do the task.
 Call some pupils to point to the pictures and say Whole class
 Step 5: what they have heard. E.g. I have a red pen.
5. Look and trace. 10 minutes
 Step 1: Access sachmem. Have pupils look at the letter E Whole class
 (upper case) and the letter e (lower case). Say 
 What can you see? Point to the upper case E and 
 say This is the upper case E. Then point to the 
 lower case e and say and this is the lower case e. 
 Ask some pupils to make sure if they recognize the 
 two forms of the letter. 
 Step 2: Have pupils look at sachmem and identify how the 
 letter E (upper case) and the letter e (lower case) 
 is traced. 
 Step 3: Tell pupils to trace the letter E/e, saying Now trace Individual 
 the letter E/e with your pencil. Give further support work
 to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task.
 Step 4: Ask pupils to work in pairs and swap their answers, Pair work
 saying Now work in pairs and check the tracing. 
 Give pupils time to work. Go around and offer 
 help, if necessary.
 Step 5: Ask some pupils to show what they have done. Whole class
 Praise them if they have done well, saying You’ve

 80 Step 4: Have pupils point to the dog and say the sentence 
 in pairs or groups, saying Point to the pen and 
 say, please! It’s a red pen. Go around and offer 
 help, if necessary. 
 Step 5: Invite a few pupils to listen and repeat the Whole class
 sentence “It’s a red pen.” in front of the class. 
 Correct their pronunciation, if necessary or praise 
 them if they pronounced the sentence correctly, 
 saying Very well!
7. Let’s talk. 10 minutes
 Step 1: Have pupils look at the first picture in Student’s Whole class
 book or in sachmem. Say Look at Picture a, 
 please! Point to the pen and ask them What is 
 this? The pupils may answer a pen. Ask them 
 What colour is it? Is it red? and give the answer 
 Yes. It’s red. It’s a red pen. 
 Step 2: Point to Picture a and model, using the Whole class
 expression in the bubble and the word in the 
 picture. E.g. “It’s a red pen.”
 Step 3: Ask pupils to point to Picture a and say the Individual 
 sentence It’s a red pen in chorus, saying Let’s work
 point to Picture a and say “It’s a red pen”, 
 please! Correct pronunciation, if necessary.
 Step 4: Ask them to look at the pictures to identify the 
 other things. Then let them point to the pictures Individual 
 and say the words first, then say the sentences, work
 saying Point and say, please! Check comprehension.
 Step 5: Ask pupils to work in pairs or in groups to 
 practise introducing things to each other, saying 
 “It’s a red ____.” Give further support to those Pair or group 
 pupils who find it difficult to do the task. work
 Select some pairs of pupils to practise 
 Step 6:
 introducing things to each other in front of the 
 class. Praise them, saying Excellent! if they 
 performed well. Whole class
