 a. Teaching the letter K/k
 - Procedure:
 + Have Ss point to the letter K/k explain that the name of the letter K/k is different to its sound /k/
 +Encourage Ss to repeat several times 
 b.Set the scence:
 - Procedure:
 +Have pupils look at the picture and describe it. Draw pupils’ attention to the letter K/k, the word next 
to Bill and other words next to the things and the color of the letter K/k
 +Ask pupils to point to the letter K/k. Have them listen and repeat the sound of the letter K/k
 + Show the picture and elicit the answer of who the characters are.
 +Tell pupils to point to the and the word Kite. Ask them to listen and repeat the word
 + Repeat the same procedure with the bike, the bike and the kitten. Give further support to those pupils 
who find it difficult to do the task.
 + Play the recording again and have them listen, point to the letter K/k and the ball, bike and book and 
repeat until they feel confident. Correct pronunciation, if necessary.
 +Play the recording again and call some pupils to say the letter K/k and the words kite,bike, and kitten 
in front of the class.

 UNIT 2: IN THE BACKYARD
 Lesson 2
I. Objectives:
 * By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
 + correctly pronounce the sound of the letter K/k, the words kite, bike, kittenand 
say the sentence structure He/ she --- (verb+ -ing) in the chant
 + recognise target words and sentence tructure while listening
 + Trace the letter k in upper case and lower case.
 +Write the letter K/k and complete the words kite, bike, kitten
 - Ss can develop some following competences: 
 + Communicative and collaborative competence: act 1, act 3, act 4
 + Problem-solving competence: act 1, act 2, act 3
 + Self-studying and self-control competence: act 2, act 3, act 4
 + Problem-solving and creative competence: act 4
 *Language focus: 
 - Phrases:flying a kite, riding a bike, playing with a kitten
 - Differentiated teaching:
 + Incomplete Ss: can recognise target words while listening
 + Well-completed Ss: can the hear sentence tructure while listening
 II. Materials:
 -Teacher’s: books, pictures, flashcards,CD.
 -Students’: books, crayons
III. Method:
 -Communicative Language Teaching
 -Total Physical Response
III. Teaching activities:
 Activity 1: Warm up 
 -Play game: Walk and talk
 Activity 2:
 -Content 3 : Listen and chant + Ask pupils to share their idea with their partner
 + Call some to go to the board and write their answers
 Activity 4: 
 -Content 5: Look and write
 - Procedure:
 + Have pupils look at the letter K (upper case) and k (lower case). Write the upper case K 
and the lower case k on the board
 + Write the upper case K and the lower case k in broken lines on the board
 + Tell pupils to trace the letter K/k , saying Now use your pencil to trace the letter K/k.
 + Check the results of pupils’ tracing and give feedback. Ask pupils to work in pairs and 
swap their answers.
 + Ask some pupils to show what they have done. Praise them if they have done well.
  Consolidation:
 - Content: Review phrases and the chant
 + Phrases:flying a kite, riding a bike, playing with a kitten
 + Chant
 - Procedure:
 + Ask students to answer the following questions:
 What have you learnt from the lesson today? 
 What are the core values of the lesson? ( if the teacher can take from the lesson). 
 + Praise some ss who are hard working/ active/ good. as well as encourage others 
 to try more.
 + Give feedback 
  Homework:
 - Learn by heart the pattern.
 - Review the song 
 Activity 2: 
 -Content 6: Listen and repeat
 - Procedure:
 + Have pupils look at the picture, saying Look at the picture, please! Describe the picture.
 + Draw pupils’ attention to the structure next to the thing, and the color of the letter K/k Have 
pupils point to the kite and/or the phrase flying a kite listen to the recording and repeat the sentence
 + Then play the recording again for them to repeat individually and in chorus. Correct 
pronunciation
 + Play the recording several times again for pupils to listen and repeat the sentence
 + Invite a few pupils to listen and repeat the sentence “Is she/he flying a kite? Yes, she /he is 
No, he/she isn’t.” in front of the class. Correct their pronunciation
 + Have pupils work in pairs, good Ss will help the below average and average Ss.
 Activity 3: 
 -Content 7: Let’s talk 
 - Procedure:
 +Point to each character in the picture & elicit his/ her name & the words to fill the gaps.
 + Have Ss repeat the text in the bubbles a few times.
 + Repeat the procedure with the second picture.
 + Do choral & individual repetition.
 S1: Is he flying a kite?
