 It was my grandma who brought me up and taught me how to use natural remedies. She did not
 believe that any cases were beyond possibility. She was convinced that any illness could be cured.
 In the surrounding forests, elds, and marshes, she could always nd the grasses, weeds, and
 flowers she needed. I used to go out with her many early mornings. She would be busy collecting
 leaves, flowers, grasses, and other plant components as I could hardly tell one plant from another
 in the darkness. Since I was a young child, she has been both my instructor and my inspiration. I
 have learned a lot from gathering the dirty bags and slicing or chopping fragrant plants for drying.
 Many people in those days thought that all health problems are caused by either the devil or God.
 That was why they prayed and went to temples or pagodas to ask Gods for good health. In
 contrast, my grandmother believed that, in some way, people themselves were to blame for all
 their health issues. Human beings do not pay enough attention to their own health or do not know
 how to take care of their health properly. I did not fully understand my grandmother’s opinion until I
 moved to live in America. My research revealed that a lack of highly critical nutrients like vitamins
 and minerals in the typical diet and an excess of certain relatively unnatural substances people
 take in at meals can both contribute to various diseases. Further studies revealed to me the
 influence of ideas and emotions such as love, hatred, fear, etc. in both producing and curing
 physical illnesses.
