1. Cõu đơn 
Cõu đơn là loại cõu chỉ gồm một mệnh đề độc lập. 
Ex: He has been working for this company for 2 years. 
2. Cõu ghộp 
Cõu ghộp là loại cõu gồm hai hoặc nhiều mệnh đề độc lập, nối với nhau bằng liờn từ kết hợp như 
and (và), but (nhưng), nor (cũng khụng), yet (nhưng), so (vỡ vậy), hoặc liờn từ tương quan như not 
only  but also (khụng những  mà cũn), hoặc một trạng từ liờn kết như as a result (kết quả là), 
moreover (hơn thế nữa), in fact (thực tế là), on the other hand (mặt khỏc). 
Ex: He had an excellent performance at the interview, so he was offered the job. Being a teacher is 
a demanding job; moreover, you don’t earn a high salary. 
3. Cõu phức 
Cõu phức là loại cõu gồm một hoặc nhiều mệnh đề độc lập và ớt nhất một mệnh đề phụ thuộc nối 
với nhau bằng liờn từ phụ thuộc như when (khi), while (trong khi), because (vỡ), although (mặc 
dự), if (nếu), so that (để mà).
