Warm-up: Find the place word (3 minutes)
Learning goal: Recall three places needed for the reading and project.
Task content and materials
Unscramble the three words: 1 shopbook; 2 keryba; 3 marketsuper.
Key: 1 bookshop; 2 bakery; 3 supermarket.
Questions: Where can we buy books? — At the bookshop. Where can we buy bread? — At the bakery.

Reading text:
Mai wants to buy some bread. The bakery is in Nguyen Hue Street. How can she get there? She can go 
straight and turn right. The bakery is on the right.
Bill wants to buy some books. The bookshop is in Green Street. How can he get there? He can go 
straight and turn left. The bookshop is on the left.
Statements:
1 The bakery is in Nguyen Hue Street.
2 Mai can go straight and turn left to get to the bakery.
3 Bill wants to go to the library.
4 Bill can go straight and turn left to get to the bookshop.
Key: 1 True; 2 False; 3 False; 4 True.
Corrections: 2 Mai turns right. 3 Bill wants to go to the bookshop.
Teacher-written AI simulation: 'Mai and Bill both turn left.' Correction: Mai turns right; Bill turns left.

Text starter: Today is Sunday. I want to buy 
Map facts: begin at the star You are here on Ly Thuong Kiet Street; the bookshop is in Tran Hung Dao 
Street. Use the map's road orientation and trace the route before writing.

Teacher's book suggested paragraph:
Today is Sunday. I want to buy some books and pencils. There is a bookshop in Tran Hung Dao Street. 
I can go straight and turn right. Then, I turn left. The bookshop is on the left.
Route explanation: trace from the star along Ly Thuong Kiet Street to the junction, turn right into Tran 
Hung Dao Street, then left towards the bookshop entrance. Do not omit the final left in this model.
Pupils may choose other suitable bookshop items, such as books or pencils; keep the street and 
directions consistent with the displayed map.

Learning goal: Present a map and give directions to three places.
Task content and materials
Use each pupil's prepared sketch, or draw this complete fictional model:
Home is below a central crossroads. Bakery is at the left end, Bookshop at the right end and 
Supermarket at the upper end. Draw one road from Home through the crossroads to Supermarket and 
another from Bakery through the crossroads to Bookshop. Start at Home facing up every time.
Model presentation: This is my neighbourhood map. This is my house. To get to the bakery, go 
straight and turn left. To get to the bookshop, go straight and turn right. To get to the supermarket, go 
straight.
