I. LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Language knowledge and skills
Say the initial sounds of y in yes and n in no, then use them in Can you draw? – Yes, I can. and Can
she swim? – No, she can't.
Listen for Yes/No and select the correct reply in two exchanges, retaining he/they.
Say both verses of the chant with a steady beat and clear positive/negative replies.
2. Competences
Attend to a sound and its meaning, compare a proposed answer with the spoken evidence and help a
partner rehearse a full exchange.
3. Personal qualities
Respect classmates who need another listening turn; report one's answer honestly and stop device use
when there is a problem.
4. Integrated learning
[CB2.4.1] Recognise simple risks to a learning device and choose to stop and tell the teacher.
[CB2.4.3] Recognise tired eyes during prolonged screen use and take a screen break. Use the
brief classroom scenarios below; pupils need not learn technical safety vocabulary.
[4.A1.2] Correct a prepared, explicitly simulated AI word grouping using the printed spelling
and teacher/audio model; a suggested answer does not replace listening.
II. TEACHING AND LEARNING MATERIALS
Textbook p. 38; Teacher's Book pp. 77–78; Tracks 53–55 if available. Complete words, scripts and
chant are printed here so the teacher can model them when audio is unavailable.
Four word cards: draw, swim, ride a bike, play the piano; two response cards Yes and No. Cards may
be written on the board; no separate handout file is required.
A teacher-controlled audio player or school display, with the selected track ready before class. The risk
scenarios are acted or read, never created by deliberately damaging or overheating a device.
III. TEACHING AND LEARNING ACTIVITIES
1. Warm-up – point to the ability (5 minutes)
Learning goal: Recall four activity phrases and a sensible stopping decision.
Task content and materials
Word cards: draw | swim | ride a bike | play the piano.
 1 Biên soạn: TiengAnhGlobalSuccess.net
Call order: swim → play the piano → draw → ride a bike. Point at the matching word on a desk copy
or the board; there is no race to hit the board.
Practice situation: a pupil has kept an English game open for a long time; their eyes feel tired and the
tablet becomes unusually hot. Choices: A keep tapping to finish; B stop, leave the device on the desk
and tell the teacher. Expected decision: B. Tired eyes concern the learner; unusual heat concerns the
device. Do not claim every long game will damage a tablet.

ability questions; open p. 38.
Assessment and support: Check word recognition and a sensible stop/tell choice. Accept pointing for
the safety decision; it is not an extra English vocabulary test.

2. Listen and repeat – y in yes, n in no (8 minutes)
Learning goal: Produce the two initial sounds and keep the question and reply linked.
Task content and materials
Track 53 content:
y — yes — Can you draw? – Yes, I can.
n — no — Can she swim? – No, she can't.
Teacher pronunciation cue: initial y in yes is /j/; n in no is /n/. Model the sounds rather than the
alphabet names. Pupils do not have to read IPA.
Prepared AI simulation, deliberately wrong: y → no; n → yes. Correct grouping: y → yes; n → no.
This card is a teacher-made simulation, not a report of a real tool response.

3. Listen and circle – hear the reply (10 minutes)
Learning goal: Identify the spoken Yes/No reply in each complete exchange.
Task content and materials
Task: listen and circle a or b.
1. Can he swim? a. Yes, he can. b. No, he can't.
2. Can they draw? a. Yes, they can. b. No, they can't.
Track 54 script, for the teacher:
1. Can he swim? – Yes, he can.
2. Can they draw? – No, they can't.
Verified key: 1a, 2b. In item 2 they refers to more than one person; the printed question is Can they
draw?, not Can he draw?.
